Gardening Fever!

Updated: Feb 11, 2019

Johnny jump ups by Vermont Pressed Flowers

The calendar says it is spring today; that seems to be the only evidence of spring here in southern Vermont.. When one looks out the window or at the weather forecast it is still very much winter. It has been a long, cold, snowy winter and it's not ready to quit just yet. I honestly must say I have not been terribly bothered by all the snow and very low temperatures. ( I'll take snow and cold over the heat and drought in southern California anyday!) I kept busy doing all the things I normally do all winter long and life was not so different than any other winter, except of course, for higher fuel bills and a bit more shoveling.

However, my patience with winter comes to an abrupt halt at this time of year, Gardening fever sets in. and it's uncontrollable. I really crave gardening and am so eager to get my hands in the dirt. It's now that I'm desperately wanting all the snow and cold to go away and am frustrated that it's not happening quickly enough.

Being the impatient gardener than I am, I started some seeds indoors last week; a little early, I know, but I just couldn't help myself. Within the next few weeks, much to my husband's dismay, our house will become filled with makeshift grow lights and trays of seedlings, many of which will never make it to the outdoor gardens. But that's okay. It's the process more than the end product. I just can't help myself. My gardening friends will understand. :)
